Set intention and light charcoal disc (I use Three Kings). Please the charcoal disc in a heat safe vessel. Once disc is fully burning, take a pinch of incense and place (carefully) on charcoal disc. Continue thinking about your intention as you tend to your incense. Add more incense as necessary.
